This year, World Book Day coincided with the school’s first “Bring a Parent/ Carer to School” week. So, following on from last year’s Art & Literacy Learning Treat, we took the opportunity to make it a week-long bonanza of literature, language and words – raising money for the Rural Libraries Project in Peru as we did so.
Thanks very much, as ever, to the numerous parents who took and sent in photographs.
- Bring a parent to school week: time to get those mums studying.
- Happy children…
- …and?
- The parents were all happy, though!
- Particularly in Draco class, where the children mixed drinks for them (it’s science, of course).
- Midweek, two barrister parents demonstrated how a courtroom debate works.
- Cull badgers or kill cows? You decide!
- “Welcome to the chocolate factory!” It’s Thursday, and it’s World Book Day.
- All kinds of characters…
- …are on their way to school.
- The playground was like a library.
- The school hall even more so.
- Rapt attention for Ms Heery’s assembly about the Rural Libraries project in Peru.
- Ms Heery and a helper acted out what it takes to get hold of a book in rural Peru.
- Donations from all that dressing up went to a good cause.
- After school, it was time for Word Fair.
- Children queued to talk about their character for Just A Minute.
- Then parents, children and teachers read out poetry from all around the world.
- They did a really fantastic job.
- It was fascinating to hear so many different languages.
- The Bengali club had put together a visual treat, too, with flowers celebrating six seasons.
- By the end of the afternoon we were unexpectedly speaking Welsh (somewhat).
- Except Mr Shuttleworth, who’s still working on Irish.
- Thank you, Ms Pavey, for making the poetry event happen – part of a wonderful week.
