Galloping into Maths Week

A week of number fun begins at school tomorrow. Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to get involved! If you have an idea for Maths Lab after school on Tuesday or Wednesday, and can set it up and run it, it’s definitely not too late… Contact us.

Big thanks, too, to everyone who’s been bringing in 2ps and rinsed juice cartons for the children’s maths construction challenges. Large juice cartons are still needed – the more the better – and can be donated right up until Thursday 6th February.

Meanwhile, Cygnus saw out last week with a great homage to Chinese New Year on Friday. We thought you might like to join in, with these snaps below.  Thank you, brilliant parents who emailed them to us.

Confused as she is? Let’s work it out together…

We need parents, families, carers to join in with Maths Week – the first of the school’s three special subject weeks this year. Mr Gulliford – Maths Week Champion – is looking for people to discuss with the children how they use maths and numbers in jobs every day: maths is everywhere!

You can’t bake a cake without numbers.

We’re hoping to match at least one person with every single class so that all the children benefit. You certainly don’t have to be an expert – although we’re happy to take experts, too.

Interested? Contact us, or let your class teacher know. But in your excitement, don’t forget the Andromeda / Draco cake sale this Friday. You may need the energy.

New year, new learning – new pictures!

Christmas holidays are so 2013, aren’t they? If you really want New Year fun, you have to go to school! So to remind you just how fun it can be, we’ve posted pictures of NSPCC Number Day, back in December, and the associated antics of Bubblz the Maths Clown.

It's maths! It's clowning! It couldn't be more exciting!

Watch out for more posts and information in PACT folders about the school’s Maths Week, coming up in February. We’ll be looking for parents with relevant skills and experience to contribute. Please consider whether you might be someone who can lend a hand.

Other initiatives this term include the development of a new school website: we want your comments, questions and suggestions. Look out for a letter and meetings about that in the first half of term.

And don’t forget that Tufnell Park School Weight Loss Club starts again on Tuesday 14th January, 7pm in the Nursery. Well, it can’t ALL be fun…
