Indoor picnic for the new arrivals

The great outdoors – so over-rated, right?

All was cosy and calm at the Welcome picnic for Cygnus and the Nursery today… driven into the school hall at the last minute by a rainstorm over Tufnell Park from precisely 15:20-15:50. You can probably still find the odd tie-dye patterned balloon hanging in Dalmeny Park, missed by the organizers as they fled…

Nonetheless, with blankets and floor mats, colouring pens, loads of lovely food and balloons to kick about, there was plenty of fun to be had.  Thanks so much to everyone who came: it really was great to meet you.

Come again on Friday 9th October, 3:45pm for the HSA AGM in Andromeda Class.  That’s the way to have your say.

Welcome picnic in Dalmeny Park, Thursday 24th

We can’t guarantee the sunshine… but there are ALWAYS balloons.

This year’s nursery and reception children are all at school by now, and it’s time to welcome them with the annual picnic at Dalmeny Park.

If you haven’t got a child in Cygnus or the Nursery, you can still help… a lot.  By all means feel free to:

  • Lend a hand setting up (from 2:30/3:00) or clearing up
  • Come along with some food or drink
  • Steer any lost-looking newcomers towards the park, and, of course,
  • Say “hello” to the new parents.

It looked like rain last year and we got brilliant sunshine by 4:00pm, so let’s hope for a repeat! If the heavens do open, we’ll picnic in the school hall.

Orion cake it alone

Two boys

Guess that’s why it’s called a “cake hole”. By some.

They called it a “monster cake sale” on their poster, and Orion certainly went giant on their profit today when they took in £130.60 from their cake sale… all alone. Or almost all alone.

Although the Nursery had a schedule clash today and unfortunately missed their cake sale, the HSA’s new candyfloss maker had just arrived at school and needed a try-out before the Summer Fair. So, candyfloss profits contributed to Orion’s heroic solo effort. And the verdict on the candyfloss machine?  It’s very pink.  And it works really well.  See it in action NEXT Saturday, 11th July, 2-5pm.

Fridays are for meeting… and treating

Don’t forget!  It’s the last cake sale of the school year tomorrow, with profits to Orion and the Nursery.  Bring cake, buy cake – or if you feel it’s too hot for cake, get creative with some fruit or healthy snacks to sell: all contributions are very welcome.

Nothing starts the weekend like a slice of cake.

Nothing starts the weekend like a slice of cake – get yours on the way out of school tomorrow afternoon.

If you can get to school any earlier, please join the Summer Fair meeting in the mobile from 2:00pm.

Sign up to help out at the fair, if you haven’t already, or just come and find out what’s going on and how it’s all going to work on the day.

With Colombian dancers, capoeira instructors and plenty of fruity punch on offer, this year’s carnival theme is hotting up right along with the weather…

What the HSA Committee talked about…

…on Tuesday 23rd June.

Carnival! Carnival! Carnival! With the Summer Fair less than two weeks away – it’s on Saturday 11th July – carnival planning is about the only game in the HSA’s town. Loads of people have signed up to help, which is absolutely brilliant because it’s going to be BIG as ever, and everyone also needs a bit of time off to go round the fair with their own kids. Let us know at any time if you don’t mind lending a hand.

Email Anna on, grab one of the committee in the playground, put your name on the chart in the school lobby or look out for parents at the school gate all next week – they’ll be out there, signing up volunteers.

Even if you haven’t done any of that, you could still drop by the next – and final – Summer Fair planning meeting: Friday 3rd July at 2:00pm at school, in the mobile, conveniently leading you into the Nursery & Orion cake sale at 3:30pm.

One day, ALL of these will sell for 50p... but for today, it's only this one.

One day, maybe, ALL of these will sell for 50p… but for today, it’s only this one.

Keep an eye on the PACT folders, too: today they contain a letter about the fair listing things we still need, and attaching books of raffle tickets for families to buy and sell. Once again, our kind sponsors at Drivers & Norris have come up with a splendid first prize: an Apple iPad Air 16GB with WiFi – retailing at around £300 and possible to win for just 50p… if you buy the lucky ticket. It really is a beauty.

Cygnus & Nursery: warm welcome in Dalmeny Park

Surely there could never be an UNwelcome picnic?

Surely there has never been an UNwelcome picnic?

Fingers crossed, it looks like the sun may continue to shine on Thursday afternoon for the new starters’ Welcome Picnic

All children in the Nursery and Reception classes – aka Pegasus and Cygnus – are invited to bring their families and carers to Dalmeny Park after school for cakes, snacks and fun. It’s a chance to meet each other, and your children’s teachers and teaching assistants, with a bit less time pressure than at school drop off and pick up.

If you want to, bring some food and drink as well as something to sit on.

Last chance to pretend it's summer...

When the funds come rolling in…

Nothing screams, "Easter!" like a chocolate krispie nest.

Great result for the Nursery and Aquila class at Friday’s cake sale. Shrugging off any possibility of end-of-term fatigue, they brought in some fantastic cakes and raised £137.60 to share between them.

We’ve also got the final figure banked for Sports Relief from the whole school’s efforts the previous Friday. The total raised was £290.52 – well done, everyone!

And now, to Thursday’s Hat Parade, Tufnell Park’s legendary annual explosion of creative madness. Fire up the glue-gun and let’s give Mr Baldwin an epoch-making send off.

Do it for your classmates (and yourself, of course).

And we're ever-grateful for staff support, too! (It's tough but... it's for the kids.)

Bake up, cupcake! The holidays are coming…

Aquila class and the Nursery get their chance to shine – and earn! – with the last cake sale of term this Friday, 28th March. Please donate baked goods and other tasty treats: savoury bakes and fruit snacks are also popular, as last Friday’s Sports Snack stall made very clear.

Let’s see if this Friday we can outsell Andromeda and Draco, still in the lead from January with a massive take of £176.92 (=£5.89 per minute! All in 10p pieces!)*
